In January 2020, California became the first state to require all new houses to be built with solar panels. In June, Environment America launched a first-of-its-kind campaign calling on additional states across the country to set similar standards for solar power on new homes. The campaign is advocating for a solar homes requirement in Texas, as well as Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Dow Inc. finalized a contract in June that will see a 200 MW solar power plant provide electricity to their Gulf Coast operations center. The project is anticipated to create approximately 350 jobs at peak of construction. The will generate enough power to supply 25,000 average Texas households and save 147,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

15 utility-scale battery storage plants are being planned near Houston and Odessa by the end of 2020. Each site will contain battery systems capable of storing and distributing up to 10 megawatts of power.
